Accessibility
United Way East Ontario has utilized guidelines issued by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to implement functional improvements to unitedwayeo.ca. We are working to ensure that all content unitedwayeo.ca, and all content on other sites managed by United Way East Ontario, satisfy Level A and AA Success Criteria set forth in WCAG 2.0 and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) at www.aoda.ca.
While we strive to make unitedwayeo.ca and the other sites we manage as accessible as possible and to meet the WCAG 2.0 guidelines, our pages may not always pass online validation tools. Our approach to using image alternate text attributes, for example, includes keeping redundancies to a minimum, so we will sometimes opt to use empty alt attributes rather than duplicate content already present on the page. Similarly, some third-party hosted content presented contextually on our sites via iFrames or other technologies, including promotions and partner applications, is literally out of our controlled codebase. While we encourage our partners and vendors to comply with industry-wide accessibility standards, we cannot enforce such standards alone.
Some specific accessibility features within this website
This website contains a third-party plugin, also known as a Widget, called AccessiBe which is powered by this third party’s dedicated accessibility server. Use of this Widget can improve website access for some users, particularly related to certain type of disabilities. AccessiBe has stated that its application makes efforts to follow to some degree the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1). On our website, the AccessiBe widget is located in the LOWER LEFT CORNER on desktop screens and along the LEFT SIDE on mobile devices.
Enabling the accessibility menu
The accessibility menu can be enabled by clicking the accessibility menu icon that appears after clicking on the Widget described above. After triggering the accessibility menu, please wait a moment for the accessibility menu to load in its entirety.
