United Way East Ontario is pleased to welcome Rachael Wilson as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 12, 2026.
With a 25-year career in the nonprofit sector, Rachael brings a record of transformational leadership, strategic collaboration, and a lifelong commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities.
Most recently, Rachael served as the CEO of the Ottawa Food Bank, where she led the organization through a period of significant change and growth. She also co-led Ottawa’s city-wide Poverty Reduction Strategy in partnership with United Way East Ontario, the City of Ottawa, and hundreds of cross-sector collaborators across housing, employment, social services, and food systems.
“Rachael Wilson is an award-winning leader, skilled communicator, strong relationship builder and expert fundraiser,” says Thom Donnelly, Chair, United Way East Ontario Board of Directors. “Most importantly, she is someone who has driven meaningful impact in our communities—showing strong leadership on the critical issues facing our region. Rachael cares deeply about improving lives by tackling the toughest of problems at the root and brings the credibility and experience to make it happen.”
“I am honoured to join United Way East Ontario at a time when our communities are counting on us to uncover and address the systemic challenges affecting everyday life. Whether it’s housing, financial stability, mental wellbeing, or community-building, United Way offers hope for a future where everyone can reach their full potential. I am excited to lead this organization as we work to find long-term solutions to these critical issues and more.”

In early 2025, the United Way East Ontario Board of Directors partnered with Odgers, a leading executive recruitment firm, to support a rigorous, equitable, and accessible search for a new President and CEO. The position was posted publicly and promoted across Canada.
Dennise Taylor-Gilhen, who served Interim President and CEO since June 2024—and previously spent several years as Vice President, Community Impact—will move into an advisory role, supporting several strategic initiatives.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to Dennise for her steady, compassionate leadership and vital contributions during her time as Interim President and CEO,” says Donnelly. “Dennise has been instrumental in strengthening the organization and advancing our mission.”
