From May 2-15, 2022, 483 participants hiked, biked, ran, danced, and more, all to Move for Youth with National Bank, United Way East Ontario, and Centraide Outaouais.
From idea to action.
Early in the pandemic, National Bank recognized the pressures COVID-19 puts on vulnerable kids. Their leadership team approached United Way East Ontario and Centraide Outaouais about how they could make a difference. Move for Youth was created as a way for the community to come together and show up for kids when they needed us most.
This virtual event, now in its second year, encourages participants to get moving with us while raising awareness and funds to help create opportunities for local youth.
In 2022, we set an ambitious goal.
If together, we could reach 10 million total steps during the 14-day challenge, our incredible partner National Bank would donate $10,000 to United Way.
“All of us getting involved helps United Way to pursue its important mission: to ensure that every kid has the chance to succeed. These youth are to be congratulated for their tenacity and the sacrifices they have made over the past two years.”
- Richard Ferland, Regional Vice President, National Bank
Using the MoveSpring app, participants signed up with a team or on their own to tackle the Move for Youth challenges, make an impact, and win great prizes. The app made it easy to connect with team members, track your progress, and convert any activity into steps! Whether you were walking your dog around the neighbourhood or dancing to Bust a Move in your living room, anything that got you moving counted towards our goal.
Talk about stepping up!
Our participants blew us away by surpassing the 10 million total step goal in less than five days! They knew every step they took would lead to a better future for vulnerable youth, and they hit the ground running.
Congratulations to everyone for crossing the challenge finish line. All together, we moved a total of 35,155,122 steps!
“National Bank employees in Eastern Ontario and the Outaouais would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out in such large numbers to support Move for Youth. Make sure you stay fit for the third edition next year!”
- Richard Ferland, Regional Vice President, National Bank
And we want to say a big shout out to the more than 200 National Bank employees who participated from across Eastern Ontario and the Outaouais region! Thank you, and all our participants, for your dedication and enthusiasm for this cause.
All that hard work will have a huge impact.
The stress, uncertainty, and instability of the pandemic has taken a toll on local youth. Young kids depend on the skills they learn early on for the rest of their lives. Every dollar raised as part of Move for Youth will go towards United Way’s work in helping kids be all that they can be. Together, we raised $65, 808.
“Even though the end of the school year is just around the corner, United Way’s work to keep kids engaged and connected continues. The funds raised during Move for Youth will help young kids who need extra support to keep from falling behind in school, and in life. Because of you, local youth who are facing even greater challenges due to COVID-19 will get the resources they need to succeed.”
- Mohamed Sofa, Director, Community Initiatives, United Way East Ontario
