Mentorship

United Way East Ontario is working to engage new mentors and career coaches to help vulnerable youth.
Our objective is to help address the challenge of youth unemployment and youth underemployment, with a focus on newcomers, youth with disabilities and other high-risk groups.
Mentoring is vital to young people today. United Way East Ottawa, through our Mentoring Ottawa Program, offers the following:
- Connect With Other Mentors: mentors will be invited to join our LinkedIn community.
- Grow Leadership Skills: with the support of our sponsors, we offer formal professional development events to improve mentoring skills in Ottawa. Participants learn techniques and skills from experts that enable them to grow their mentorship and leadership ability.
- Help People Through Mentorship: mentors who sign up will receive invites to virtual events where they can provide instant career help for youth who have challenges engaging in the labour market, with a focus on people with disabilities, newcomers, and others who may be at risk of unemployment or underemployment. In these speed coaching and networking sessions, they will meet youth and help them through advice.
- Become a full-time mentor: for those that indicate an interest, United Way East Ottawa provides referrals to people and organizations that would benefit from engaged mentors. This includes special networking and career coaching events where you can support people in our community.
Please consider volunteering your time while respecting social distancing by becoming one of our mentors and helping youth through virtual interactions. Mentorship ability is also a great asset for your own career as well as helping those who are most vulnerable.
