Run with us to support local youth struggling with substance misuse.

Your participation enables us in ensuring those struggling have the tools they need to break the cycle of addiction—leading to success in school, better employability, reduced risk of becoming homeless, and an overall better life.

Join us and this year’s Team Captain, Mark Sutcliffe, in supporting long-term solutions:

  • Meeting kids where they are: Addressing substance misuse early is key to reducing long-term dependency on drugs and alcohol.

  • Stopping the cycle: We know the importance of education, early prevention, and ensuring those struggling have the support and treatment they need.

  • Being a part of the conversation: When tragedies like overdoses strike our communities, we take immediate action with partners and supporters to inform the public about what resources are available for themselves or their loved ones.

As a champion of project step, an award-winning drug and substance misuse initiative, Mark has seen what a community can achieve when supporters, volunteers, and key organizations come together and work towards a common vision.

You can ensure young people struggling with substance misuse have the tools they need move from dependency to resiliency—ultimately building a better life.

Fundraising Tips

It’s exciting to think about the size of your social network, and what change you can make possible by inspiring them to care about the cause that’s so near and dear to your heart.

The donations you raise through the Charity Challenge will help ensure young people struggling with substance misuse have the tools they need to break the cycle of addiction—leading to success in school, better employability, reduced risk of becoming homeless, and overall better life. Here are some tips:

  • Leave no stone unturned!
    • Family: Brother, sister, mom or dad. Ask at least one of them for a $25. You never know, they might donate more!
    • Friends: What are friends for? Well, in this case, they can give you $20 to help your goal.
    • Co-Workers: Ask one co-worker to help support your goal by donating $20.
    • Neighbours: Ask two of your neighbours for a $20 donation each.
    • Don’t forget – you can also make a donation yourself!

  • Get creative! In addition to this simple fundraising activity, there are all sorts of fun ways you can raise money as a team or individually—think bake sales, garage sales or even a chili cook-off.

  • Get social. You can also use social media to increase your donations by using the assets we’ve provided below.

  • Share why you care. Above all, with everything that you do, don’t forget to share why you care and why this cause is important to you.

  • Thank your donors and supporters. It’s so important that when someone gives you a donation, you thank them for their support. You can also follow-up after your run and tell them how it went!

Subject: Help young people turn their lives around

On May 23-24, I will be participating in Ottawa Race Weekend’s Charity Challenge to support United Way East Ontario’s work in addressing youth substance misuse across our region.

Did you know that 85% of adults struggling with addiction began using those substances when they were teenagers? Open and honest communication about what addiction means, how it happens, and how to overcome it is essential—especially for local youth.

I want to make sure that the community supports that help break the cycle of substance misuse and addiction will always be there—where they need it, and when they need it.

Your donation will support work like project step, an award-winning drug and substance abuse initiative serving youth in three community organizations and all 57 of Ottawa’s high schools and, so that students have access to counselling support, addiction education, and prevention programming.

I hope you can support me today and help make a difference. You give online to my personal fundraising page: [LINK]

Thanks so much for your support,
