Ready to take a swing at stigma?

Join us for GenNext’s BATL for Mental Health, where we’re axing the silence surrounding mental health one bullseye at a time. 🎯

Sharpen your aim and join us at BATL Ottawa on Thursday, March 21, for an exhilarating tournament-style evening that combines axe throwing, philanthropy, connecting with your community, and of course, snacks.

One in five people in Canada struggle with their mental health. When someone’s going through a tough time, it can affect all of us. We can’t tackle the mental health crisis alone. Let’s rally together to raise awareness and funds for more accessible, affordable, community-based mental health programs, so everyone can thrive.

Sign up. Assemble your team. Fundraise for mental health. Throw axes. Win prizes.

Get your friends, family, neighbours, or colleagues to join you in a team of five — or come solo and we’ll match you with a team.

Your goal is to raise a minimum of $500 per team (or $100 per team member). By fundraising, you’ll support local mental health initiatives and the teams that raise the most will win great prizes for the whole group to enjoy. First time fundraising? We’ve got you! Check out our fundraising toolkit for tips and tricks.

On March 21, you’ll get some basic training (no axe-throwing experience necessary!) from BATL’s expert coaches. Then teams will put their skills to the test in a head-to-head tournament, and we’ll finish off with a championship round to crown a winner.

The registration fee is $50 per person and includes your entry at BATL, snacks, and the chance to win prizes. Plus, 50% of the registration fee goes back into the community, making a real difference for people who are struggling with their mental health.

This event is 19+. Drinks will also be available at an added cost.

When you register for our event, you’ll automatically be added to our door prize draw and mailing list. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Please contact us at if you want to attend this event but are experiencing financial barriers.

A BIG thank you to our sponsors Top Shelf Distillers and Dominion City Brewing Co., and to our event partner, BATL Ottawa!

GenNext East Ontario is a social impact movement for the next generation of change-makers—bringing people together through philanthropy and fun.

As part of United Way, we work with local partners to address the most pressing issues in our region, advocate for change, and fundraise for support. We focus on four local issues currently affecting the most vulnerable people: mental health, youth homelessness, diversity and inclusion, and equitable employment. Find out more here.

Most of the details will be explained at the event, but here are the basics. Things begin with practice and instruction (no experience necessary!) from BATL’s expert coaches, teams will then go head-to-head in a playoff tournament, and we’ll finish off with a championship round to crown the winner.

Yep—but don’t worry, if you register solo, we will match you with a team!

Nope. While we do encourage you to fundraise to help us strengthen mental health initiatives in our region, each participant (19+) who pays the $50 registration fee is eligible to participate in the event. See our fundraising toolkit for tips and tricks

Your support fuels a network of frontline services that ensure people have access to quick, affordable, culturally appropriate and community-based mental health care. Learn more here

It’s the Back Yard Axe Throwing League. Think darts but with axes

For your safety, all participants (19+) are required to wear closed-toed shoes while axe-throwing. There’s no dress code, but we encourage you to dress the part and summon your inner lumberjack.

Yes, everyone who makes a donation will receive a tax receipt.

Note: The registration fee is not tax receiptable, as per Canada Revenue Agency rules.

BATL charges a standard entry rate, but for this event, the fee will also include food and the chance to win prizes. The good news is that, thanks to our partnership with BATL, 50 per cent of the registration fee will go back into the community to support mental health programs.
