Outreach Manager, Employment Initiatives
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director, Employment Initiatives, the Outreach Manager will support community engagement in our employment initiatives furthering with the goal of increasing representation of vulnerable populations in the local labour market. This will be done using the assets developed in our ongoing project : A Comprehensive Look at the Labour Market Issue Facing Vulnerable Populations.
The overall goals of the project are to:
- to better understand the labour market issue for vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities, youth with disabilities, and vulnerable youth (homeless, newcomers, low-income, LGBTQ2+, Indigenous) and those living in at-risk neighbourhoods and communities in East Ontario
- create research assets that will guide long term community strategies
- support the creation of a series of skills development sessions for employers to increase their knowledge and comfort levels in recruiting and retaining people with disabilities in the workplace
The project has 4 main components, three that focus on research and one that focuses on the development of training modules to help employers become more inclusive and accessible. The Outreach Manager will assist in the final production stages of the research report focused on the participation of persons with disability in the local labour market. They will also take the lead on organizing the release of two of the reports to the public, and coordinate outreach and engagement of the community based on the findings and recommendations from all 3 reports. In addition, the Outreach Manager will support the delivery of the learning modules by engaging and informing the community about the sessions, and potentially assist with the delivery of the workshops as needed.
The Outreach Manager will work closely with both the Director, Employment Initiatives and the Project Manager to ensure that projects remain on track in regard to time, budget, and content.
Candidates bringing an understanding of lived experience (either personally or through other experiences) are considered an asset
- A university degree in social sciences or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and professional development
- 2-5 years’ experience within the social services and/or public policy sector with a comprehensive knowledge of social service systems
- Demonstrated experience working independently with little direct supervision to deliver project from beginning to end.
- Experience conducting business and engaging with variety of stakeholders within corporate and community service environments
- Experience working with external organizations leveraging research and evaluation expertise and efforts
- Experience in public speaking
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines and provide high level performance of tasks with a high level of attention to detail
- Strong written communication skills
- Sound judgment and integrity; tact and diplomacy
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and presentation software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset (spoken and written)
