Jessey Bird

Jessey hails from a small town on Ontario’s Lake Simcoe, but after coming to Ottawa for her Bachelor of Journalism, she never left. She quickly fell in love with the region, agreeing with the many who told her it was a “big city with a small town feel.”

After graduating university, Jessey worked as a reporter at the Windsor Star and Ottawa Citizen. She then moved on to manage media and community relations for a national charitable foundation. She also worked as a freelance journalist and communications consultant, co-founded a local news blog, and began her journey of volunteering with local organizations and start-ups committed to improving the city.

In 2010 Jessey joined High Road (FleishmanHillard). As a senior content strategist she supported award-winning creative campaigns for some of Canada’s biggest and most beloved brands.  

Inspired by a roster of clients that were making a difference in their communities, Jessey joined United Way in 2015 – a place where she knew she could harness her skills and team to truly make an impact on the issues she cares about.

Jessey is also an instructor at Carleton’s School of Journalism.
