Tracy L. Lavallee, B.A., J.D.
Director, Community Engagement, Office of the Special Interlocutor for Missing Children and Unmarked Graves and Burial Sites
Tracy Lavallee is a Plains Cree (Nehiyaw) from the Cowessess First Nation in Southern Saskatchewan, Treaty 4 Territory. Tracy was raised and educated on her home reserve and left the reserve to attend university. In 1994 she received an English/Indian Studies degree from the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College/University of Regina and in 1998, she received her Juris Doctor (law degree) from the University of Saskatchewan.
Tracy spent the first 10 years, post-University, working for First Nations, at the Band level, provincial level and national level. In 2008, she joined the federal public service, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.
Tracy is committed to supporting the building of a public service that, in its transformation, will become a self-aware and a culturally competent partner to First Nations on the path of reconciliation and First Nation self-determination.
