Peter Sloly was sworn in as the Chief of Police for Ottawa Police Service in October 2019. He is committed to improving community safety and well-being along with improving public service and public trust in the nation’s capital.
Peter enjoyed other professional experiences over his working life; he was a partner at Deloitte where he was the leader of the national Security and Justice practice, he was a member of the Toronto Police Service where he served 27 years and rose to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police and he was a member of the Canadian National Men’s Soccer Team which included a brief professional soccer career.
Peter has a BA Sociology from McMaster University and an MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and served two tours of duty in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo.
Peter has received several awards including: Officer of the Order of Merit “Police Forces” Medal, the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal, the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal, the Police Exemplary Service Medal and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
Peter is a married with two children. The Sloly family is enjoying their new life in Ottawa.
